Why Wivme works.

Wivme is built on decades of research into how people learn and remember, and on what we learned building version one.
A lesson fades fast, unless it comes back.
Most of what we learn slips away within days if nothing brings it back. Brought back at the right moments, it holds a little longer every time. That is why Wivme works after every class, and keeps bringing each idea back until it holds.

An illustration of the forgetting curve (Ebbinghaus, 1885) and the spacing effect (Cepeda et al., 2006), not Wivme’s data.
The research we build on
Three findings, each from a published source.
Spacing beats cramming.
The same study time, spread out and returned to, leads to far better long-term memory than the same time massed together. A large review of the research found the effect across ages and materials.
Cepeda, Pashler, Vul, Wixted and Rohrer (2006). Distributed practice in verbal recall tasks. Psychological Bulletin, 132(3).Recalling beats rereading.
Bringing an idea back out of memory, by answering rather than rereading, makes it last far longer than studying it again.
Roediger and Karpicke (2006). Test-enhanced learning. Psychological Science, 17(3).Knowing why makes the fix.
Feedback that shows a learner where and why they went wrong is among the strongest influences on learning.
Hattie and Timperley (2007). The power of feedback. Review of Educational Research, 77(1).What version one taught us.
Version one was a memory app for CBSE and ICSE Grade 8 science, with more than 350 audio lessons, built by our founder alone and shipped on Google Play and the App Store. It taught us that remembering isn’t enough: a teacher needs to know why a student went wrong, and a fix needs to hold. Version two is built on both.
